“When black cats prowl and pumpkins gleam, may luck be yours on Halloween…”

It’s already October, and that means Halloween is almost upon us! It’s never too early to start preparing for this year’s October 31st, so we put together a list of our favorite Halloween and autumn inspired events. We highly recommend going to at least one on this list – but if you can, they’re all fantastic!

Haunted Houses

Field of Screams
Located at 4055 N. Tyler Rd. in Maize, KS, Field of Screams is a hugely popular haunted house that takes place in a corn field. This haunted attraction comes complete with its own backstory, and has several features: Field of Screams, Clown Town, and the Escape Shack. For a night of high quality horror and fun, check out this 4.4 star haunted house.

General admission is anywhere from $15 to $25, depending on the night you decide to visit. Available dates can be found here.

Forest of Fear
This haunted house, although located 30 minutes from Wichita at 7446 51st Rd. in Udall, is worth the drive. Far from the city, this attraction is away from the light and the noise of Wichita, giving you the full Halloween experience. Not only that, the Forest of Fear is a real haunted forest with actual documentation of scary events! This 4 star rated Halloween haunt is not something to be missed this October.

General admission is $15 on Thursdays and Sundays, $18 on Fridays and Saturdays. Children 9 and under can enter for $12.

Kid-Friendly Escapades

Walter’s Pumpkin Patch
Also a bit of a drive from Wichita, this pumpkin patch comes with a whole slew of attractions that makes the trip more than worth it. Found at 10001 NW U.S. Highway 77 in Burns, KS, this pumpkin patch is open every day until Halloween. The patch features a corn maze, a hayride, a 30-acre choose-your-own pumpkin patch, an underground slide, and even more. Perfect for friends, family, and all the kiddos, this fall attraction is rated 4.7 stars.

Admission is $10 Monday through Friday, but $13 on the weekend with additional package deals being offered. Kids under 2 are always free!

BOOtanica
On Saturday, October 13th, Wichita’s botanical gardens become BOOtanica! The gardens are located at 701 Amidon St. Costume friendly, this Halloween-themed event offers a long list of activities: pumpkin decorating, petting zoo, plant graveyard, a “spooky glam station,” a scavenger hunt, and more. The gardens are rated an impressive 4.8 stars! Treat your kids this autumn!

General admission is $9, $6 for members. Children 2 and under are free! Additional costs apply for some activities and food.

Halloween at Home

Netflix
This popular movie and TV show provider has an entire genre labelled Halloween for this Halloween season. The category is stocked full of scary movies and thrillers, perfect for a jump scare packed, lazy night in! If you don’t want to indulge in an outdoor or costly attraction this fall, take a trip to the closest couch. Pack your pajamas and a generous amount of snacks and settle in for a night (or several!) of Netflix’s top Halloween picks.

Passing Out Candy

This tried and true tradition can be fun for you and your neighborhood trick-or-treaters. Adorn your house or front porch with Halloween, kid-friendly (or not) decorations. Get dressed up – buy your own costume or don some makeup and cat ears. Don’t forget to stock up on all the best candy and get a huge bowl – also Halloween themed – and become the neighborhood’s top spot for candy grabbing this Halloween! The best part? It’s all from the comfort of your own home.

Plan a night or two this October for you and your friends or family to have a proper October experience. We promise you, it’ll be worth it. Happy Halloween!
